The “Safe Spaces without Boarders” (SSWIB) project is a disruptive, ground breaking innovation that is created to break the access barrier to SRHR/FP related information, products and services for AGYWs as well as serve as a strong mouthpiece for projecting adolescent and youth voices in Africa. SSWIB comes in two forms: 1. A High School Magazine, which exploits the Social Cognitive Theory, serving a platform for observational learning, information sharing and positive reinforcement for students of Second Cycle Institutions. 2. A Safe Spaces without Borders App, which is an electronic safe space platform that links adolescents and young people with registered caregiver and takes this a notch further by providing controlled but reliable interactions where students can book appointments with a nearby Health Center without fear of stigmatization. The app also allows for interaction between students and supports their education with study tips, creative write-ups, news, short skits and stories, videos of school activities and poetry recitals. SSWIB is tailored for in-school adolescents and their peers outside school and has been piloted in Ghana and Uganda with excellent outcomes. It has reached over 40 out of the 113 districts in Uganda, 50 out of 276 districts in Ghana and reaching about 1,000,000 adolescents. We have obtained written partnership commitments from the Government Ministries responsible for Education in Ghana and Uganda and their associations of Head Teachers. At full scale, the combined effect of this innovation has the potential of reaching up to 100,000,000 adolescents and young people across Africa. It has a tested business model, which ensures sustainability and scalability.
