The application, named Matibabu uses a light sensor connected to a tablet that is passed over a finger to diagnose malaria. The Matibabu malaria detection device (above) uses the principles of light scattering and magnetism to detect changes to red blood cells that signal disease. The microscope, on the other hand, takes about 30 minutes to get a conclusive result and the Matibabu kit takes two minutes to have those results visible to you.
