The WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) recognises the critical role innovation plays in addressing some of the health challenges and also accelerating progress in attainment of the desired health outcomes in Africa. The WHO Innovation Challenge was officially launched on 8 November 2018. The aim of the Challenge was to source, select and profile innovations including community-based initiatives that apply new and fresh thinking to address unmet health needs on the continent.
WHO will continue to support healthcare innovators through a digital platform. This platform will provide up-to-date, informative content and serve as a dynamic marketplace to connect diverse stakeholders such as government ministries including health, academics, innovators and public and private investors to create an ecosystem that supports further implementation of innovations especially in places that are generally neglected or difficult to reach in Africa.
